Crazy in July!

I cannot believe that July has come and is almost gone!  I feel bad for the little ones who only have a month left of summer vacation!  I remember when I was younger, summer would last forever!  Now you do not know where the months go!  As you can tell we have been crazy busy!  Especially since my last post was in MAY!  July is here and both houses are in full swing.  I don't know if I told you but Jake and I also have a house in Albany that we are trying to flip and sell.  Our weeks are dwindling down to get it on the market.  I think after the next two weeks we should be set.
So far we tamed the jungle in the back yard....about 2 hrs left!  And thanks to the help of my loving family tomorrow might make it complete, that's if the heat doesn't get to us first!  We are also gutting the bathroom and are having new electrical and plumbing installed.  Then the house will get a face lift with brand new paint.  Some well needed and deserved TLC!
I hate to sell this home because it has a lot of meaning to me, but sometimes we have to do what we have to do.  I just hope I find a seller that will give it the love and care it deserves!
Back at the homestead, lots of new and exciting things have come along!  I promise I will get back on top of this and show you all the new and exciting things we have done and are going to do!  Happy Friday!  And stay cool in this heat!!!

Happy Mothers Day!

I am not sure about anyone else, but I know I have an AMAZING mother.  She is not only my Mom, but my best friend.  She is there through thick and thin and I could never ask for more.  The least I could do for Mom is cook her an amazing dinner, and thats what I did!  I wanted to make it special so I dressed the table accordingly.  For a quick and simple dress up, I found (2) pictures of Mom when she was a kid, put them in a frame and got some roses.  Check it out!

The Final Touch

I found this awesome vase for the master bathroom on one of my amazing Marshall's trips.  I put it on the jacuzzi tub and wanted to find the perfect black branches to put in them to create height in the corner of the tub.  This way your eye is drawn up on the wall to see the white shelves I hung.  I could't find the right ones in black.  After searching and searching, I decided to use the branches I picked out for my Mom's house.  There is nothing a little spray paint cannot fix!
Check it out!

Natural Branches

Black Spray paint.
I laid them on a drop cloth and sprayed every branch, then rotated the branches and sprayed again.

Short and Sweet

It's short and sweet today, but I wanted to share this amazing rug I bought last week.  It was one of those, IT'S PERFECT feelings when you see it and you know exactly where it will look great!  I have a narrow space that used to be a screened in front porch, that is now part of the house.  Right now it is a peach/orange color and it goes right into my family room which is tan and accented in blue.  This rug pulls in all the perfect colors and LOOKS great!

As an update, the floor is looking good!  Dad is doing a great job.  I should have new pictures by the end of the week!

DIY Birdhouses

Since I was 15 years old, I have nanny these 4 children who I love!  They spent this past weekend with me and we made some birdhouses.  Jake and I built the houses so they were all ready for the kids.  They were quite easy and went faster then I thought!  He picked up some wood from the local lumber yard.  I showed him (2) different styles I wanted to try.  He cut the wood, we nailed them together and drilled out the hole.

I used basic primer from Lowes as a base.

I went to Hobby Lobby during the week and loaded up on different colors of acrylic paint and different size paint brushes for the kids to use.  I also had some left over paint from the previous owners of the house, that they left.  At Hobby Lobby I also go different stencils for them to use if they wanted to.  When they finished I sprayed them with a waterproof sealer to protect the paint from mother nature.

Don't they look great!

The Perfect Makeover

Hi all!  Now as I moved out some changed happened at my parents house.  My sister moved into my room!  But before this could happen, my parents were going to do some updating!  GREAT IDEA!  Even though I wasn't living there to enjoy it, but better yet, I get to design it!
So imagine this...a 11x17 room with dated blue carpet and periwinkle walls.  Of course I never took before pictures!  Ok so this was the style back when i re-did the room and moved into it around the age of 13.  There are 4 of us siblings, 3 girls and 1 boy, my poor brother and yes he is the youngest!  All of us girls have lived in this room.  I started off in this room with my sister, then when my oldest sister went away to college, I moved into her room, then I got the genius idea to move back into my old room, my poor parents.  I am a very sporadic person, as you can tell, and they had to deal with my millions of ideas....they are saints!  Anyway, I am moved out and Meaggie is moving in.  So not only is this room getting new painted walls, they are going for the whole sha-bang, new wood flooring, crown molding etc.  O yea, go big or go home my friends!  So Dad is doing a fantastic job!  I spit out ideas to him and the next thing I know, its done!!  Don't we love Dads!

Along with my crazy ideas, comes crazy Home Depot shopping trips.  Well as I said crown molding, just imagine my Mom, my sister and myself, in Home Depot picking up these 12' lengths of molding and trying to fit them in the mini van.  O yea, it was a show, but WE DID IT!!!
This is Meaghan.  She has such a fun sense of style that this job was easy!  She told me ideas of what she was thinking and I put the pieces of the puzzle together.  We did most, if not all of the shopping online.  After major damage to the credit card, its almost all here!

So as you can see the walls are painted, the crown molding is up and the trim is painted.  Lots of work for Dad but it looks FANTASTIC!!!  I will keep you updated, as the wood floors are being put down as we speak!!!  Happy designing!
